Gradient beginner

For this weeks Sunday homework assignment Nicole at Nicole Gets Nailed and I decided on doing a gradient.  I have such a hard time doing this and have tried most techniques.  I'm not really sure if this can classify as a gradient...but it's pretty!!!
I could REALLY use any suggestions or techniques that you guys use. I always end up with pieces of sponge attached to the nail or it gets too bumpy to smooth out with a top coat .

I used two coats of Revlon's 'Dreamer' for the entire nail. For the gradient I used Revlon's 'Metallic' . I liked the silver because it was easy to work with the sponge. I need as much help as I can get

  1. I think this is pretty.
Personally, I just use sponges like you do but I think the recommended technique is to paint a damp makeup sponge with all the colours you're going to use and then place that on the nail. I haven't tried it myself but the results always look good.

  6. A+ superstar! I love the color combo! I was going to do blue and silver, good thing I didn't or we would really match!!! I used a BM stamp for my gradient, I don't have make-up sponges and the craft sponges I have suck!

  10. I've just done my second gradient/fade. The first time I did it like you did and my nails ended up with lots of texture from where the sponge stuck to my nails, I thought it was the nail polish but you have proved that it wasn't. The other day I painted the polish on the sponge and then sponged it onto my nails, it's worked lovely, my nails are really smooth. Love the look on this, the metallic silver is really pretty :)
