Christmas Ornament Inspired Nails

Hey Buddies!

I have my first Christmas nails for you.  Although I'm not a big red with green fan I knew I had to do at least one.  I decided to use an ornament for my inspiration.  This is the only red and green ornament I have on my tree so it was not a difficult decision.

The full nail is in Julep's 'Delaunay'.  Its a beautiful rich red creme that unfortunately is almost gone :(.  The gold is Quo by Orly's 'Filthy Rich'.  This bottle is also getting pretty low. I think a new one will be required soon especially during the holiday season. I then used some green glitter to recreate the sequins on the ornaments.

Hope you enjoy

Glitta Waves

I'd like to start off with a sorry to my fellow challengers.  Water marble is not going to happen today.  Hopefully I will have it sometime this week but time and sun has not allowed me to do it.

Instead I have a marblish type mani.  The stamp kind of gives that impression.  I started off with a blue base. Which one???...I have no clue. I do know however that it is the darker of the two colours.  The stamp is Bundle Monster BM205.  I used Sally Hansen's Insta Dri in 'Brisk Blue'.  I'd also like to point out that for once I didn't have to redo any nails!! Yahoo!!
I was kind of bored so I decided to add some glitter.  I used one of my many bottles I bought at Michael's.  I find strategically placing glitter is relaxing. Even though its fiddly I find it fun.  I wouldn't wear something like this myself but its so fun to do.

I had a second photo but when uploading it half the thing was grey.  Maybe another time :oP

Peace out folks!

31 Day Challenge: Glitter

Yes, I am a day late posting the glitter challenge. Our family had our Thanksgiving dinner yesterday so things were a little hectic.  This will be the first of two posts today.  I did two Thanksgiving inspired mani's to show you.

I don't usually take pictures of my glitter manicures.  I always get so frustrated because the camera can't capture the sparkliness. I know most others have the same problem though.

I used two coats of Julep's 'Eloise' which I received in Octobers Julep box.  I will post those goodies for you tomorrow.  The glitter I had picked up at Micheal's some time ago.  I used the tip of an orange stick to place them.

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nails

Good morning all!  So we’ve moved in to our new place but it’s been a crazy past two days.  My nails are in pretty rough shape.  Moving boxes and furniture does not help them out at all.  I thought I would post two different nails styles I tried out on the weekend.   Both of them are purely with Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear nail polish. I really like this polish when it comes to nail art.  All of them were purchased at Well.ca

The first one I did is a little crazy. I’m really trying to figure out the whole flower thing but it’s not working out to well for me :o( Once again I used the dotter for these.  I applied two coats of 'Blue Me Away'to the entire nail.  Then I added the pedals in 'Mellow yellow'  .They did not look to impressive so I added another small dot inside with 'Red Carpet' followed my another of 'Mellow Yellow'.  I can’t for the life of me remember what I used as the centre of the flower but it was Sally Hansen.  It needed a little more jazz so I added the dots in ‘White On’.  I now realize I should not of but I added a sparkle coat of 'Disco Ball'.  I’ve attempted using this polish a couple times and I hate it.  Makes my nails look cakey and almost like there is sugar on them.  I don’t see any sparkle on it at all.  I’m contemplating just throwing it out.
What do you guys think of the nails? A little crazy but it was good practice

For the next manicure I decided to go dotter crazy.

For the full nail I used 'Coral Reef'.  The large blue dots are in 'Blue Me Away' and the small yellow are 'Mellow Yellow'

I hope  to sit down and play with my nails tonight but we still have soooo much unpacking to do.  Wish me luck!

American Apparel Nail Polish? Say whaaat?

I was researching the ‘jelly sandwich’ and came across a blog that used American Apparel glitter nail polish.    I really liked the looks of the big glitter so I thought I would stroll up there on my lunch break. I would have had no idea that they sold nail polish.  Not a fan of the clothes but that’s a rant for another day…….like why are these clothes so expensive anyways?  Who pays $30.00 for a unisex big pocket tank.  I can find the same style and quality at a thrift store….don’t even get me started on Urban Outfitters.....Apologies :oP
So back to my story. I picked these up and thought I would do a swatch to see what they were like.  Here in Canada they were 3 for $18.00. Probably the most expensive in all the 20 something countries they sell in.  The colours  from right to left are :

Meteor shower, Galaxy and Light Year

Each of the swatches I did are two coats.  So to sum it up I do like these polishes but only because I would use them for a certain purpose….the Jelly Sandwich manicure. Hope to get to that this weekend. Wish me luck!!!
To see more of a review and some great pictures check out  http://nailartistacky.blogspot.ca/. It’s a great blog with a lot of fun manicures

Make Your Own Nail Polish......Attempt 1!!!

I thought I would share my first attempt to create my own nail polish. It was a good learning experience because I've learnt what not to do!

What you'll need
Clear nail polish, eye shadow, glitter, a piece of paper and a tooth pick

I used mac mineral powder to get a bit of a sheen. For the glitter I used some small viles that I got at the dollar store awhile back.  I think these actually were intended for nail art.  For my clear polish I used an old bottle of Borghese.

First I rolled up my piece of paper to make a funnel for the powder and glitter to go through.  Then I started with the Mac mineral powder.  I was impressed at how little I needed to get that pearly sheen.

Next , in with the glitter!

Everything just sank to the bottom as I suspected it would.

I shook the bottle for about a minute as well as used the toothpick to stir. This helped mix up the glitter/powder as well as gave my flabby arms a work out ;o)....and VOILA!!

Alot of the colour came out of the sparkles.  I guess I should not of expected too much as they were from the dollar store.   The pearly shine is beautiful though.  Of course pictures never do nail polish justice

And finally application!!! This is three coats.  I could of added more of the mineral powder but then the sparkles would not of shown up at all.  The longer they are in the bottle the more iridescent the sparkles have become

All in all it was pretty fun! Note to self ...by quality sparkles!!!
